Best Practices

When you’re in any profession, you always have roadblocks. I like to keep my journey with my clients as smooth as possible. Here are a few ways we can effectively work together.

DESIGN BEST PRACTICES

  1. Be honest. If you like my work, tell me! If you hate it, tell me! I am open to respectful criticism and I truly believe that your coaching and your design should reflect who you are. If I don’t know you are unhappy or frustrated, I can’t fix it, so be honest with me. We will work together to take responsibility for the changes that need to be made. I will always be honest if I don’t feel I am the coach or the designer for you.
  2. Submit text and images that are as final as possible. Revisions get most costly when we are making several rounds of little text edits. I understand that often things look different when they are formatted and organized visually and that is completely understandable. As much as possible, however, try to send in materials that are finalized on your end.
  3. Have samples to show. You won’t hurt my feelings by showing me someone else’s work that you really admire! Chances are, I will admire it, too. Bringing pieces that inspire you to our initial meetings will help me to get a vision of what you are looking for and what you are attracted to. Colors, design pieces, websites, etc are all helpful in guiding me to see your vision.
  4. If we’re working on a large project, it’s helpful if you submit revisions all at once instead of throughout the day. This also saves on costly revisions and limits the amount of time it takes for me to make changes, create PDFs and get back to you.

COACHING BEST PRACTICES

  1. Best honest. Same principle as #1 above applies here. If my style of coaching isn’t working for you, let me know! We’ll shift accordingly, or I can recommend another coach that might be a better fit. My main concern is your comfort and happiness within the coaching partnership.
  2. Don’t leave out details. I come to each coaching session without judgment. I need to know the whole story in order to coach you effectively. Some of the most valuable growth areas are those that are uncomfortable.
  3. Be you. So many of us try to be what our parents, friends or spouses want us to be. In our coaching sessions, I need to see YOU and what YOU want.
  4. Remember that I trust what you tell me in our sessions. I will coach you around what you ask for. So, be sure to be asking for areas that will help you grow, not stay comfortable.
